The Hearn is a mothballed power plant down in the Toronto docklands; vast, unravelling, it is a monument to a past industrial era. This year's Luminato Arts Festival held a number of shows and exhibitions there, for the first time, allowing ordinary citizens (and photographers!) a glimpse of the interior. I had brought along the Leica D-Lux, not really planning on taking photographs, but I'm glad that I did. Everywhere you looked, there was an image, a composition, a play of light upon shadow. All of these images were shot hand-held, using a wide aperture and natural lighting.
